Pensión La Fuente

The rooms are simple, but spotless and have all the basics you need. Everyone was very friendly, and the hostal feels authentically Spanish. One tip: leave the car on the main road and walk down, since the streets here are very steep and narrow.

The food was delicious, and we enjoyed every moment at "Pension La Fuente". The service was excellent, and the people made us feel as if we belonged, with their authentic local culture. We couldn't have asked for more from our stay.

We came across this as the only open bar or restaurant during our 4TH CAMPING ROAD TRIP across Europe, a slow-going family trip. It's in a one-star hotel beside the landmark Fountain of Three Spouts (Fuente de los Tres Caños). The beer, bread and jamon serrano were all excellent, just right for a hearty village snack. There are quiet dining spots indoors and out back, where you can look over the garden and mountainside. The village has quite a story. British writer Gerald Brenan lived here and wrote about village life in “Al Sur de Granada“ (To the South of Granada) in the 1920s, when there was no paved road or public transport, but apparently plenty of water. Each town has something of its own to discover if you stay a while, at least longer than a day. Vagn Hansen, also known as “Juan el Dinamarca,” came for a holiday in the late 1950s and never left. We didn't stay here, just stopped to eat at the bar. It was the only place open in town, and the owners kindly made us a delicious meal.
