The courtyard and stairwell are the most interesting parts of the House of the Count of Pinofiel. Outside, the building follows Antequera’s “frame-façade” style, with brick covering everything except the main entrance. Two striking white limestone coats of arms flank the entrance on the second level. It’s also one of the best-preserved buildings around, and one of the few domestic structures whose date and architect are known, both recorded on a plaque on the façade.

The building is now a retirement home, though it began as the palatial residence of the Counts of Pinofiel. On Calle Tercia, close to Plaza de San Sebastián, it still has a stately feel, with a columned courtyard that preserves a sense of Antequera’s aristocratic past during the Enlightenment. This 18th-century house sits in the heart of Antequera, Málaga, and is one of the city’s finest examples of Baroque civil architecture, with a grand stone façade and wrought-iron balconies.
