Parador de Antequera

We spent three nights here over Valentine’s weekend with my wife. The restaurant was a highlight: we ate there twice and both the service and food were excellent. Our TV wasn’t working when we arrived, but the reception team sorted it out quickly. The rooms are roomy and comfortable, and the staff were really helpful. A great base for a visit to Antequera.

The rooms are spacious and the hotel is clean. At dinner the food was good and arrived quickly, though the service felt a bit disorganized: the wrong wine came, and some people had to ask several times for drinks. Breakfast was more frustrating. I wanted to take a bite back to my room so I could get some work done, but they insisted I return my plate. I was allowed to take my coffee, at least. I understand management has this policy, but it doesn’t feel very customer-friendly when not everyone is on holiday and able to linger over breakfast in the restaurant.

The hotel sits on a lovely hilltop viewpoint and is still easy to get into the city from. It’s also within walking distance of Antequera A.V. train station. Our room was quiet and comfortable, and the staff were so kind and helpful. I’d happily stay here again.

The location was great for exploring Antequera, and the large car park meant we had no trouble finding a space. Our four-night stay was less impressive inside: the room was spacious but dated and a bit tatty, the bathroom smelled damp, and the air conditioning was really loud. We were also greeted by a very grumpy man at check-in, which made us feel unwelcome. I’ve seen reviews praising the hotel, so maybe we just got unlucky with our room.
