Caleta Garden Apartments

We visited in May and September and loved it. The staff, from the maids to the head waiter, were all very nice, and the rooms were clean with maid service every other day. The food choice wasn't always great, but we always found something. There was lots of fish and pork, and the food was laid out well with little tags saying what each dish was. Kids could have pizza, nuggets and burgers every day, plus there were unlimited drinks and snacks at the bar all day. Good value for money.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the rooms were clean. The food was fresh and edible, if not very inspiring. Happily, we didn't see any roaches, which is pretty unusual for this island, even in higher-end hotels. There are mixed reviews online, but for what I paid I can't honestly complain. If this is your big holiday of the year that you've been looking forward to for months, you might be disappointed. For a cheap sunshine break, though, you could do a lot worse. A decent budget hotel.

We ended up here after a quick change from the hotel we wanted, and the reviews hadn't been great. The staff were fantastic, though, shining through even during their long days. The place was clean, and the bedding was changed every two days. The food was more hit than miss. There's always pizza and chips, sure, but that's not our thing. We could still count on fish, meat, rice or an alternative potato, plus plenty of salad and desserts. We were also among lovely people, and the Mexican and Oriental nights were great meals.

The shallow end of the pool was still too deep for my grandson, who's 128 cm tall. That's the only downside. The staff were really friendly and helpful, the food was good, and the rooms were cleaned to a very high standard. A really good, basic place. You might spot a cockroach or two somewhere, but they're part of the island's natural wildlife.
