We only ate at the restaurant; we didn’t stay at the hotel/hostal. The staff were perfectly nice, but the service was poor. Different dishes arrived at random, and the children had nearly finished their main courses before the adults’ dishes came. We seemed to have about three different servers who weren’t coordinating. We had to ask for coffee three times and the bill four times. The food was OK, but below what I’d expect for prices that were relatively premium. My friend asked for her steak medium to well-done, but it came out closer to rare to medium. The following night we ate at la drogeria in Puente-la-reina and had a much better meal for half the price, both in food quality and service. We won’t be returning.

The black beans were the best thing we ate, while the "bacalao ajoarriero" was tough and greasy. There was plenty of food, though it wasn’t the best around, and the dishes could have come from any bar on the nearby roads. The building itself looks impressive, as if it had once been important. We came as a large group, and service was very slow, with waits of more than half an hour between some courses.

The family who runs Beti-Jai were so warm and thoughtful, and I had a lovely time taking in the artwork and old-fashioned decor. We had a magical vacation here, and I hope I can come back someday.
