Hostal Montsoliu

The rooms are spacious and clean, with comfortable beds, and the service is kind and fairly quick. At the entrance there’s a display of lovely vintage metal toys made by the family’s grandfather, along with a selection of handmade lights. The hotel is very nice, and the restaurant is excellent for a very low price. Its menu changes every week, so the food is fresh and tasty, with great ingredients in Catalan dishes like rabbit, turkey, river fish, vegetables, and meat. My only minus was the lack of good Catalan wines, though the beers are local.

The outdoor seating is great, and the staff were super friendly and attentive. Still, most of our orders had problems. We asked for the burgers well done with an egg, but one came medium and two were rare. The Gatspaxos soup arrived with pork slices that weren’t mentioned on the menu, and some of us don’t eat pork. The burgers had bacon too, which we had to remove. Then the bill included three extra beers, so we had to call them back about that as well. To be fair, it may have been a bit crowded today. It’s a good place, and we’d give it another chance next time we visit.

The staff were excellent, and the location is great for walks and hikes. It was super clean, had funny decorations, and offered good value for money. The only thing that could be improved is the drafty windows in the rooms.

Vincenc was very friendly and helpful, and we had a good stay. The terrace area is great, though it would be better with more people joining us. This is an interesting, quirky, arty hostal, and it must have been beautiful when it first opened. It’s rather tired now, though. Abrucia felt much the same. We realized too late that the hotel restaurant and bar were closed, as were most places in town, so we had to drive 30 minutes to find somewhere to eat. Places open from Thursday.
