Camping els Ports

We stayed six nights in the end because the place worked so well for us. It was quiet mid-week and happily noisy at the weekend. Toilets and showers were perfectly fine, and the prices were reasonable. The family-run restaurant was nice, with excellent grilled vegetables and very good coffee. Beautiful Arnes is just a short walk away, with two bars and a good shop. The area is fantastic for walks and gravel riding.

The village is easy to reach and very pretty, with a good bakery and a couple of bars. Road cycling nearby is excellent, with quiet roads and some good climbs. The campsite itself was very clean, and the pitches were a good size. The showers were clean too, though my wife couldn't find one with a working temperature control. Reception staff were welcoming and helpful, which made the restaurant disappointing by comparison. It felt seedy and dirty, with no indoor space and just two rows of bare canteen tables outside. We don't know if that setup was because of the schoolchildren staying there. They made a lot of noise in the evenings with football and music from a boombox, and took over the cafe area at mealtimes, despite the campsite being advertised in the Acsi book for people seeking peace and quiet. The coffee we had was probably the worst we've had in Spain, so we decided not to eat there.

I only stopped for a meal while exploring Els Ports for the weekend, since I live about 30 Kms away, so I can't comment on the accommodation. The pool looked lovely and had gorgeous views. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. The proprietor was great, and his wife, the chef, really excelled herself. I'll definitely go again when I'm in the area.

There are all sorts of bungalows to rent, along with spaces for campers and tents. The showers and toilets were nice and clean, and there's a bar, a children's playground, and a good-sized swimming pool. The bar was closed more often than open during our stay, so I can't comment on the food. There wasn't any English-speaking staff, so if you don't know Spanish, be ready to use gestures and a phone translator.
