The receptionist was genuinely excellent, friendly and efficient, and handled most things around the guest house. Breakfast was good quality and brought to each table since there wasn't room for a buffet. But the room itself felt sparse for the price, and the air conditioning was either too hot or freezing air blowing straight onto the bed. A sewage smell from the bathroom drains lasted through the night. We had booked two nights but left after one, after explaining the problems the next morning. We had paid upfront, and the receptionist said she needed to check with the owners about compensation. Nothing has been offered so far. The bigger issue was the shield bugs: with the windows open for only half an hour, around 50 got into the room, so we couldn't keep them open. The grounds seemed infested. For the same money, we could have booked a proper hotel with better standards. I understand the same owners run the local cider mill and two restaurants, but they don't seem very tuned in to customer satisfaction, price competitiveness, or reputation. If you want somewhere local, there are better and cheaper options.
