Spectacular view, authentic house, exquisite area.

Atalbéitar was a great base for exploring the hiking routes to nearby towns, and the village itself is quiet, surrounded by nature, and typical of the Alpujarras. We had a perfect weekend there with friends. The house was so cosy and charming that we might have stayed inside all day cooking, playing games, and switching off if the countryside outside hadn't been so lovely. Our hosts were really helpful and made sure we had what we needed. We’d love to come back for a longer stay.

From the roof terrace, you can watch the sun go down over Las Alpujarras, and the bright rooms make the house feel welcoming. Castaño Real has comfortable, nicely decorated bedrooms, cooking and BBQ facilities, and open fires in some rooms for colder days. Atalbéitar is a traditional whitewashed alpujarran village, with countryside walks to nearby villages. The house also works as a base for all kinds of holidays, from the beach to skiing in Sierra Nevada. A peaceful place for a weekend, or for getting out of the city and experiencing the Alpujarras.

We’ve stayed here twice, once in summer and once over Christmas, and both visits were lovely. In the warmer months the house stays cool, and the terrace, barbecue, and views are wonderful. The sunsets are beautiful any time of year. Winter was enjoyable too: the days were pleasant and fairly warm, and we spent the evenings by the fireplace for Christmas. The rooms are cosy, nicely decorated, and clean, with fresh towels and sheets and a well-equipped kitchen. There’s also a games room with darts and a pool table. The owners are friendly and very helpful, and can share plenty of information about the area.

Casa Castaño Real in Atalbeitar was a comfortable, self-sufficient home, built in the traditional style of the area. Atalbeitar is picturesque and well placed for trips to places like Trevélez, Capilleira, and Pampaneira. The owner was attentive, answered our questions, and shared lots of information about the area and places to visit. We had a wonderful time in the Alpujarra region, enjoying the peace, fresh air, and nature as a break from city life. We already miss it and would love to return.
