We have visited Ávila around this time for years, and this was by far our worst stay. I don't usually write negative reviews, but I feel people should know that our experience didn't match the photos and ratings on Booking.com. I can't recommend Apartamentos Cocó unless the owners deal with the neglect, odors, and service problems. The place has potential, but it needs a proper review and update, with attention to basic details. We were traveling with a child, and the strong tobacco smell throughout the living room, bedrooms, and bathroom was especially unpleasant, despite the no-smoking policy. At first there was also an overpowering smell of cleaning products, so we aired the apartment out for hours. That only masked the tobacco odor, which stayed with us throughout the visit. Getting in was a problem from the start. We'd booked months ahead and received the usual confirmation, but at the agreed 3:00 PM arrival time we were left outside with our luggage, no key, and no one to meet us. We tried the app without getting a response, then called. A manager arrived about twenty minutes later. The explanations changed, first it was extra cleaning, then keys left inside, which felt unprofessional and made us uncomfortable right away. Inside, the condition fell well short of the listing photos. There were scratched walls, dead bulbs, tired furniture and appliances, dust in the extractor fan and corners, a greasy range hood, and a dirty, noisy fridge. The sofa wasn't big enough for our group. The TV was too close to it, and opening the fridge door was awkward. Some items were broken or patched up, and the apartment wasn't well soundproofed. A tile at the bathroom entrance was broken and the toilet leaked. Several rooms didn't have enough light. The building added more hassles. There was no working elevator, so we had to carry heavy luggage up the stairs. The stair lights were on tight timers and went out too soon. Doors squeaked or slammed, and the front door made the whole experience noisier. Service felt impersonal, too. Apart from a standard welcome and goodbye message, we had no human contact beyond the check-in problem, and management seemed distant, doing only the minimum.
