Hotel Palacio Aviles, Affiliated by Meliá

Breakfast was very good, and you can ask for eggs prepared however you like. The room and beds were comfortable. There was no restaurant open, and an employee honestly told us the bar food was mostly snacks and not great. We were traveling by bike, but the receptionist seemed unfamiliar with that and wouldn’t help us find a place for the bikes or even try to contact a manager. We were told to lock them in the public parking garage. In the end we brought them to our room, despite being told we couldn’t. It was a large hotel with conference rooms and other spaces they could have offered. The location is nice, right on the square in Aviles. If you think of it as a 3-star hotel rather than the stated 5-star, your expectations will be about right. Across multiple continents, this was the poorest service I’ve had at a 5-star hotel.

The reception staff were extremely kind and welcoming, and we appreciated the hotel’s efforts to cut plastic use and encourage eco-friendly practices. Our family room was huge, beautifully decorated, and comfortable, with lots of space to relax. The building has a lot of charm and character, giving it a warm yet elegant feel. It’s in the historic center of Avilés, so everything is within walking distance and the location is perfect for exploring. Breakfast was another highlight, with great-quality food presented very nicely. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend it to families with kids too.

We keep coming back to the palace, and even when we’re staying somewhere else for a longer stretch, we try to fit in at least three days here. It’s a magnificent, beautiful building, upgraded with great taste. I’m surprised their advertising doesn’t show more pictures of the palace interior, since it mostly shows the rooms. Marketing company!

We stayed just one night, but the location was fantastic and we enjoyed the hotel’s facilities. Breakfast was really nice too!
