Sercotel Gran Hotel Zurbarán

We spent three nights here from Saturday 20/9/25. Badajoz itself is fascinating and beautiful, with plenty of restaurants around the old town. The hotel sits by the river at the edge of the old town wall, and I rather liked its unusual, almost brutalist concrete exterior. It's a short walk into the old town. The staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful throughout. All the rooms were spacious, the beds comfortable, and the air conditioning worked well. Our first room had a drip into the toilet that kept us awake, so at 00:30 we asked reception to move us. They only had an accessible room available for that night. It had a comfortable bed, though all the empty floor space made it feel soulless; it would be useful for someone maneuvering a wheelchair. We moved again for the next two nights to a larger, much nicer room with a small balcony. The hotel is let down by several things. All three rooms looked tired, with chipped bath enamel and damage to a wall, and cleanliness was poor. The bar's daytime hours were restricted. I understand closing late at night, but not in the afternoon. Breakfast was mostly poor. It was OK on the first day when we arrived early, but on the other two days the hot food was stone cold by the time we got there. The fresh fruit seemed to have been sitting out for a long time, and on the third day staff couldn't keep up with demand, so some items took a long time to replace after running out. It's a shame because the customer-facing staff try hard and provide good service. This should be a really good hotel, but too many things let it down, and the stay was disappointing.

A balcony was a nice bonus, and it was peaceful even during Carnaval. The room was nice, the staff excellent, and the location handy for walking to all the sights. It's also beside a pleasant park and the ancient city walls.

We had a spacious, comfortable room, and reception were friendly. The hotel is next to a quiet park, and the breakfast buffet was nice. There's a parking garage beside the main entrance stairs. It costs €18, but saves you the hassle of looking for a free spot on the street.

The rooms are huge, with very large windows, and everything was spotlessly clean. We had a very good breakfast too. Just a tip, the entrance is up quite a lot of steps, but there's an elevator right beside them, so look for it before you start climbing.
