Hotel Puerta de la Luna

The main drawback was the pool setup: there were no sunbeds, though you'd expect them at a hotel with a pool and they appear in the photos. Reception couldn't explain why, as the staff member couldn't explain in English. We stayed in room 101, near the entrance, street and stairs, so there was a lot of noise from people passing by. We could also hear the guests upstairs using the toilet and shower. Bring earplugs if you want a decent night's sleep. It's a charming old hotel, though.

We found free parking in a nearby lot, although the hotel also has parking for an extra charge. Our room was spacious, with two comfortable armchairs and a view across the courtyard and little pool to the nearby cathedral. We paid extra for that view and were glad we did. Breakfast was very good, and the hotel has plenty of charm in the old town.

Lovely property in a great spot, though the front desk staff could use a bit more hospitality training. When I asked the receptionist for help ordering a taxi, she gave me three numbers. I asked whether they spoke English and she said she didn't know.

We were very happy with our stay and would gladly recommend the hotel. It's right in the old town near the cathedral, with comfortable rooms, friendly and helpful staff, a pleasant pool in the central courtyard, and an excellent restaurant. See my separate review for Acebuche restaurante. A couple of small things: there are just eight sunbeds around the pool, and people hover to grab one as soon as it frees up. I can see why management might want to keep the courtyard looking good without crowding it, but a few more beds would help. Parking is behind and under the hotel, which is handy, though there are only eight or nine spaces and some are awkward to access. It may be worth calling reception ahead to check availability. We paid 250 euro for a suite for two nights with breakfast in early July, which was very good value.
