Jose was so kind and supportive, and helped me practice my Spanish. Staying at Hotel Pazo de Mendoza was a highlight of my Camino in June 2025. The hotel is beautiful, clean, and comfortable, right on the Camino and close to restaurants and other useful places. My room looked out over beautiful Baiona.

A clean, quiet stay in an older building, even though we were above a busy restaurant. We had a top-floor room, where the sloping ceiling meant you had to watch your head.

The location is amazing, near the old town, beaches, and fort. The rooms are a good size, with comfy beds and a bath, and the hotel has been beautifully restored. The staff were the most welcoming and friendly I met in Spain. We were there on a busy August weekend, though. The restaurant downstairs was packed, and cigarette smoke drifted into our room. On Saturday night, even the excellent soundproof shutters couldn’t keep the noise out. I’d love to return in the off-season.

The decor is beautiful and the location is great, but there’s no breakfast included and parking is a real hassle. You can use the underground car park. It costs 16+euros, and even with the hotel’s discount voucher it still comes to 13euros a day. There’s no elevator, and the hotel is upstairs, so it’s not good if you can’t manage stairs.

The hotel sits in a privileged spot in the heart of Baiona’s Old Town, facing the sea. It was originally built in 1768 as the residence of the Dean of Santiago de Compostela Cathedral, and has been sensitively converted into a hotel. It’s recently been refurbished, and the makeover is a stunning success, much better than before. The beds are bigger, and the mattresses, furniture, floors, carpets (now sisal), reception, and everything else are new. Even the Wi-fi is a lot better. The cafeteria and restaurant are good too, with an excellent value menu del día. The food is always good, and the coffee(oro) is superb. It’s professionally run, so expect good service. I can strongly recommend a stay here.
