We booked through VRBO, then found out on the way there that another provider had already booked the property. It’s advertised on several sites, and the owner doesn’t seem to be keeping track of the bookings properly. They need to check availability before accepting reservations. Luckily, we called that day for another reason. Otherwise, we’d have reached Balaguer with nowhere to stay.

The host who welcomed us was warm and helpful, spoke fluent English, and knew a lot about the building and its history. The apartment is one floor up, with no elevator, and parking in the square is metered and limited to a few hours. Inside, it has three separate bedrooms with a bathroom, plus an entrance hall, living room, kitchen and balcony. It’s a beautifully kept retro apartment in a historic building, with high ceilings, old doors and windows, and lovely floor tiles. There’s free tea, coffee, Wi-Fi and a large bottle of mineral water. I absolutely loved staying here in Balaguer.

The square is lovely, and the people were friendly. The portions were small, though, and the menu was Catalan. Balaguer is definitely worth visiting for its church and monuments.
