Breakfast was great, with everything you’d want in the morning. The free car park beside the hotel was full throughout our two nights in September, so we had to park on the street. Staff spoke little or no English, but we managed to understand each other in the end. We chose the ibis because it’s outside the city but only a short drive from Bilbao. The room was spacious, though ours was just behind the lobby, so breakfast noise in the morning and people at the bar at night carried through. There was also a strange smell in the room. We couldn’t tell if a previous guest had smoked or if something else caused it.

The hotel restaurant was okay and the staff were very nice, which helped since there aren’t many restaurants nearby. It’s handy for the ferry port, though we had trouble finding the place. And don’t rely on what they say about parking: it’s outdoors and there’s no height restriction.

A basic place, but handy if you have a car, with parking and good value for the money. The rooms were clean and cosy, and breakfast was good. Hector at the front desk was especially helpful.

We stopped for one night before catching the ferry, after an eight-hour drive. They were still serving food late, which was a lifesaver. The menu is small, but when you’re starving, a pizza and burger hit the spot. Slept well too. Breakfast was tasty and had a decent selection, though it was a little disorganised.

The location was great, and apart from the unfriendly receptionist, the rest of our stay was quite good. Still, this wasn’t the best Ibis I’ve stayed at. The room was too warm and not very clean, and I woke in the night with a bed bug crawling on my legs. After some arguing, they moved us to another room, though the receptionist didn’t seem happy about it.
