Hostelle Women Only Hostel Barcelona

The welcome from staff was lovely when my sister and I checked in, and they even invited us to join some games that evening. There’s a shared kitchen downstairs, with label stickers for marking your food in the fridge. With so much shared, the place relies a lot on everyone trusting one another. We stayed in a room for 20 women, with bunk beds and a shared bathroom containing two toilets, sinks and showers. The showers have no locks. They do provide free menstrual products if you need them. There isn’t much room for luggage if you bring more than a suitcase, and the locker is under a foot tall, really only big enough for things like a purse, ID and money. Bring a lock for your luggage. Quiet hours are listed in the check-in agreement, but other guests didn’t pay much attention. I woke several times to late-night chatting, doors slamming and people rummaging through their bags. The keypad lock on the 20-woman room is VERY loud too.

The shared bathroom was so dirty it had what looked like blood stains on the floor, which my friend and I found disgusting, especially in a women-only hostel. The rooms are packed with beds and leave hardly any room for luggage. We booked five nights but left after one because people were loud through the night and into the morning, slamming doors, switching the lights on and off and showing no manners. We’d come hoping for a new experience and maybe to meet people, but after arriving around 1am, checking in and finding our beds, we were too tired to look around. We were shocked to see this place had 8.5 star reviews on booking.com. We left straight away and found somewhere else. We didn’t take pictures because all we wanted was to get out. If you care about a clean room and bathroom, don’t stay here. It’s also far from the city, so check the location before booking.

Comfy, very clean hostel, just a few meters from the metro for getting to the main sights. I’d recommend it and would stay again.

The night noise and lack of response from reception really ruined the stay. Other guests talked all night, and reception didn’t seem to take noise complaints seriously, so the posted quiet hours felt pointless. My sleep was also interrupted when a group of girls woke me to say there was a man in the dorm. The commotion made an already bad place feel worse. Reception isn’t open 24 hours, so you can’t get help with a problem at night. The shared space is extremely cramped, with each floor essentially one big room, and the keypad door makes a loud noise that can wake people, especially if your bed is near it. The lockers are tiny, the mattress felt old and uncomfortable, and the kitchen bins were overflowing. There are only two showers for a floor of more than 20 people, and both shower and sink drains were clogged with hair. The showers have no locks, which is ridiculous in a women-only hostel. I wondered how often the bathrooms get cleaned. I stayed at three other hostels in Spain, and this was the worst. For the same money, you can find a much better hostel in a more central location. Avoid this one if you’re in Barcelona.
