Pr Cafe Bar Moderno

A very unusual place with its own charm, and it still has a lot of its original character. The owner serves whatever food he has that day with real care, and the portions are incredible, so arrive hungry. The service is wonderful, with lots of friendliness and real enthusiasm for the work. Definitely worth it if you want something different.

What an experience! 😋 We went in hoping for tapas or larger portions, said there were two of us, and sat down without ordering anything. Then the dishes just kept arriving, one after another. Suso was charming and very straightforward, and the food felt like a home-cooked meal. I missed a few dishes because I didn’t notice them before we ate them, so I never got pictures. Thanks, Suso, you’re great, don’t change! We left without asking whether there were other things besides what we’d tried.

Bar Moderno has a very unusual feel. We were just passing through town and wanted sandwiches, which seemed easy enough, but none of the bars made them. Walking in felt like stepping back about 40 years. The man was friendly and offered to put together sandwiches with different cold cuts. While some ladies played cards at a table, he took about 15-20 minutes to make them. We were pretty naive. Back at the hotel, we opened the bag to find two crusty loaves with slabs of cheap supermarket salami, each sandwich weighing about a kilo. We laughed and ate what we could. I guess he had a good laugh too over the €10 he charged us.

The menu was fantastic, and the service and attention were perfect. It’s a welcoming, family-style place, well located on national road 634 in the town centre of San Cosme de Barreiros, with parking nearby. The grandmother’s cake was delicious!
