Es Cel de Begur Hotel

The setting is beautiful, and the terrace and pool have a superb view. It’s a really relaxing place, with pleasant, helpful staff and excellent food. The grilled monkfish was better than any we’d had at restaurants so far, and we plan to return. A loud family took over the pool for a few hours, and while we were enjoying the quiet on the terrace, a guest launched a drone. It was very noisy and inconsiderate. I think the situation could have been handled better, though I guess dealing with loud guests who have no class is difficult. The car park is a bit tight, but fine once you get used to it.

We were supposed to stay three nights, but left after one when I found another hotel with a real, non-subterranean view. The booking described a “terrace with a Mountain View,” but our room had a patio at the bottom of a stone well. All you could see were stone walls unless you craned your head up, and then you might catch a glimpse of a mountain. That felt like false advertising. They shouldn’t rent that room when other lovely rooms have real mountain and sea views. I asked to move, but no other rooms were available. There were no beach towels, so we used the room towels, but there weren’t any replacements for bathing. The bathroom smelled terrible when we arrived, there was a long black hair stuck to the door hinge, and after we came back from the beach there were armies of ants along the walls. I’d been really looking forward to this hotel. If you book, ask for any room except #10.

We found the location beautiful, in a secluded valley with stunning sea views, and the food was very good. The staff were incredibly friendly, especially the receptionist and manager, who is an absolutely special person. Recommended, and ideal for visiting Begur too.

The views are great, and you can walk to the city center. Fantastic stay, highly recommendable.
