Hotel Spa Classic Begur

We picked this hotel expecting spa and massage services, but there was nothing classic or spa-like about it. There’s no lobby or public area, just a stuffy, unpleasant entrance. You may arrive to find the entrance locked and nobody there to check you in. You also have to leave your car in a public lot and walk through the whole town with your luggage. We chose a rear-facing room because the front rooms, which may be more classic and larger, are directly above a very busy, noisy street. Our patio room was small and dark, painted dark grey, with no window, just a glass door to the patio. The advertised “The Spa” was in the basement. Walking down there felt a bit terrifying, and in the summer heat it was unbearable. We loved Begur, but not this hotel.

We stayed in room 1857, named for the year the building was built. The restoration was spotless, and the beautiful room made us feel as if we’d travelled back in time while still keeping the comforts of today. It would be a gift for anyone who loves old things or art history. The service was impeccably mannered, helpful, and always up for a friendly chat. We hadn’t expected such excellent treatment. The restaurant food was superb, and we had a wonderful stay. The rooms were lovely, and the staff and service were exceptional. Highly recommend!

The views, rooms, and service were all amazing. The indoor spa, tucked underground, was a lovely and intimate experience. A truly wonderful place to stay.
