Casa Aurora

We only had two days, but Charo and her husband made us feel like we belonged there. On our last morning, snow had fallen just as we were getting ready to leave. They brought us extra firewood and played with the children outside, while continuing to look after us. Charo had already won over the little ones, who got excited every time she showed up. We found the house beautifully renovated, with plenty of its old character still there. The fireplace made a cozy spot to gather, and the wine left for us was a thoughtful touch. At Charo’s suggestion we visited San Facundo, where a lovely riverside walk leads to an impressive waterfall. We booked this last-minute getaway with very little notice, and were surprised by one lovely thing after another. We left wanting to come back and see more of the area. The stay was wonderful, but meeting people like Charo and her husband was the best part. Thank you.

We especially enjoyed coming back in the evenings and unwinding beside the fireplace. The house itself is authentic to the village and has been designed and decorated beautifully. The village is calm, while Bembibre has what you need nearby, and good transport links make places of interest easy to reach. Charo was attentive throughout and made sure we had everything we needed. We felt comfortable and well looked after, and I’d happily recommend the place.

The only real snag was the staircase up to one of the bedrooms. Its last step is a little treacherous, and nearly all of us stumbled on it. Otherwise, we thoroughly enjoyed the stay. The owners are delightful and welcoming, and the house is charming, set in a lovely little village surrounded by nature. Its location made it easy for us to visit the popular sights around the beautiful, natural Bierzo region.

The house has different levels and atmospheres, and it feels wonderfully warm and beautifully decorated. I was very comfortable there, and we’ll definitely return. Places like this, and people like Charo, are rare. Charo was attentive to every detail, gave us lots of useful information, and treated us with such kindness and warmth. She even made sure there was enough firewood for the whole stay, including for the barbecue. A perfect 20 in every way. Sending you a big hug, Chari, it was a pleasure!
