The setting alone is memorable: Molino del Santo is in an old mill, with a terrace by the river and the mountains of the Serranía behind it. Trees and cascading flowers make it a peaceful, beautiful place to sit. The restaurant is part of a stylish boutique hotel, and on the Saturday we visited it was full, with people being turned away. My brother and I had lunch last Saturday, and the staff made it a fabulous experience from beginning to end. They were warm, funny, attentive, and clearly knew their work. The food was wonderful, with a wide choice, beautifully presented and cooked. We both ordered steak, seared and caramelised outside, rare and tender inside. The imaginative sides were delicious, especially the celery gratin. Starters were just as good: prawns sizzling in garlicky olive oil and local chorizo, both full of flavour and expertly prepared. This is one of my favourite restaurants, not only in Spain. My brother was so impressed that he’s set on coming back with his wife and family. I can’t recommend the Molino highly enough. It’s a real gem.

The restaurant is the real star here, it’s fabulous, so expect to be pleasantly surprised. The hotel is excellent too, with comfortable rooms, a lovely pool and garden area, and first-rate personal service. Not sure what you’d have to do to earn more stars, if that’s what you’re looking for.

We were already thinking about coming back before we checked out, which almost never happens. The hotel has such a quiet, peaceful feel, and we loved its layout. In the late afternoon, the sun on the hills around us was lovely to watch. Carmen greeted us with a huge smile and such a bright, calm manner. The food and drinks were consistently good, and Victor and the other waiting staff had a real, genuine charm and sense of humour. A rare place that reminds you how magical somewhere understated can be.

The kids were comfortable in the rooms, and we really enjoyed the pool, garden and brook. Everyone was so welcoming, with friendly service that felt authentic. We had a great time, thanks so much!

The bar draws in locals too, which gives the place a lovely sense of community. The owners were very friendly, and we ate really well at the restaurant. We stayed at El Molino del Santo in April, but the rain meant we couldn't enjoy the beautiful pool. The garden is wonderful, and the hotel itself has plenty of charm. Our room was spotless, and I liked its rustic, minimal style. I prefer not having a TV in the room. The village is in beautiful mountain country, with lots to see and do, and Ronda is less than a half-hour drive away. I'd recommend it if you enjoy peace, elegance and simplicity.
