The room didn't have the advertised hot tub, and the fireplace turned out to be a TV screen showing flames. When we asked the receptionist about the missing tub, she said some Deluxe Suites have one and others don't, and that we should have messaged ahead to request that version. This was never made clear during booking, so we felt misled. There was no offer of compensation or a refund. We'd booked the hotel's Deluxe Suite for my partner's birthday weekend, drawn by the Booking description and photos showing an in-room hot tub and access to an exterior Jacuzzi. I contacted the hotel two days before arrival to arrange a time for the Jacuzzi, and they said it was out of order and might not be fixed in time. When we arrived, it was still broken and unavailable. That was a major disappointment and one of the main reasons we chose the hotel. The hotel is quite old and very well located, but the experience didn't justify the price. I rarely leave negative reviews, but wanted to share what happened so others can make an informed choice. What was meant to be a special celebration became a disappointing stay.

Just a couple of minutes from the center, but outside it, with lovely views and easy parking. The breakfast nook is charming, the service was pleasant, and the house tour and explanation were great. Totally recommend it!

We really enjoyed our night here. The hotel is close to the city center, in an old, wealthy family's house with a big old library and a sitting room where you can spend time by the open fireplace. Our room was very nice and clean, the welcome was friendly, and breakfast was wonderful. We can absolutely recommend it!

The staff were super friendly, which was the best part for me. It's a dog-friendly hotel in a fantastic spot, in a well-preserved historic building just meters from the medieval town area. There are lots of hiking routes nearby. Recommended.

I’ve travelled for 60 years and liked this hotel more than any other. It’s a palatial place with fabulous facilities and wonderful views across the old town of Besalu and the surrounding mountains. The staff couldn’t be friendlier or more helpful. You can get a beautiful bath bomb for your bath, or use the rooftop jacuzzi while looking out at flocks of swallows and the breathtaking mountains. I’m coming back with my husband next year. Whether you love culture or nature, you won’t find better.
