Hotel Villa De Biar

The hotel is quite far outside the city, and you can't get a taxi. The food is expensive and the taste wasn't up to the mark. Still, you could stay for a day or two just to relax and enjoy the climate.

The staff were kind, and the restaurant was wonderful. A great hotel if you're traveling with a pet.

The restaurant areas deserve a mention, and the room staff were right on top of things. We had a great couple of nights. It was my first time there, and I'd probably come back with my wife and kids.

WARNING: I would not consider this a four-star hotel. To me, the service was barely one-star, and the place felt closer to that level too. I suspect there may be two or three renovated rooms, which could explain some positive reviews. We were put in two small, dirty rooms that seemed poor quality, so this is based on what we experienced. My wife, our two-year-old daughter and I booked four nights hoping for a relaxing stay with helpful staff. We arrived after 16:30 so the room would be ready, but the pool area was already off-putting: the grass needed cutting, the bottom of the pool looked green, and leaves were floating in it and sitting on the bottom. When we raised this at reception, they told us it was clean. We had hoped to spend the afternoons swimming with our daughter, who loves the water, but we didn't use the pool once. On our departure day they finally cut the grass and cleaned it. Surely that should happen daily. The first room hadn't been cleaned, with bedding and towels left on the floor, and there was no cot. Reception moved us to another room. We had requested a cot two weeks ahead and the hotel had replied that it would be there, but staff said they had no information about it. The second room had no working air conditioning, minibar, bathroom toiletries, or tea and coffee facilities, though the website listed those as available. The air filters were filthy. Reception said they'd clean them the next day, but they never did. They also said the air conditioning wasn't on and only the recirculating air was running, so dusty air kept circulating. We were too hot and uncomfortable at night to switch it off. There seemed to be only one staff member running the hotel. We sat on the terrace waiting to be asked if we wanted a drink, but nobody came, so we had to go upstairs to reception to order. We ate at the restaurant on the first night for convenience. It was expensive, and the pork was dry, old-tasting and overcooked. I had an upset stomach for the next two days. We tried the buffet breakfast once too, but there was hardly anything to choose from, and the small amount of fruit wasn't fresh. We didn't eat there again. The rooms were small and dirty. The floors never seemed to get mopped, and walking on them left our feet black. The bathroom smelled of sewers, the toilet kept dripping, and the window was broken and wouldn't open or close properly. The photos I attached show the dusty air filters and lampshades, holes and cracks in the walls and ceiling, a cracked shower screen, moldy shower tap, dirty old shower head and dirty bathroom extractor grill. One also shows the restaurant meal I believe made me ill. We barely slept during the four nights. Dogs barked in nearby rooms for the first two; for the last two, a couple in the room next door talked and laughed loudly until at least 2:30 in the morning. The lack of air conditioning made it even harder. The website photos of the rooms, garden and restaurant food look very old, so don't be fooled by them. I received no comment or apology from management about my review. They obviously don't care and just want your money. At this high price, I'd advise avoiding the hotel.
