Tierra de Biescas

The rooms were spacious and comfortable, and the hotel has lovely gardens, a great pool, and a sauna. Check-in at the front desk was painfully slow, though, which was rough after we’d spent seven days hiking in the mountains and were exhausted.

The room itself was nice, large, and well appointed, except for the average pillows. But I won’t return. I’ve worked in four and five star hotels for years and rarely leave a bad review, so the staff’s lack of professionalism really shocked me. At 1:35 a.m. I was jolted awake by loud, nonstop knocking because reception had tried to deliver an item to our room by mistake. In the morning, staff blamed a guest for giving them the wrong room number and took no responsibility. Reception should write down a caller’s room number, since guests can mix them up. There was no real apology or attempt to make it right, and they seemed not to care that our sleep was ruined and we were leaving upset. At the restaurant, the waiter told us they wouldn’t have seated us if a large group weren’t arriving in half an hour, which made us feel unwelcome. Five minutes later, he told another family their meal order was too small for them and their child and changed it, starting an argument, then said they’d ordered too much. It was a very strange and unprofessional way to handle it.

The air conditioning wouldn’t work even on its lowest setting, so the room stayed humid and around 25°C all night. The hotel feels like it’s seen better days, and the restaurant food was awful. At least the drinks were strong enough that we laughed it off. The staff were lovely and helpful, though, so they get the three stars.

The kind staff made us feel at home, and there are plenty of shared areas to use if the weather turns bad, including an indoor pool. It’s a very nice hotel in Biescas and works well for either a business trip or a holiday. Recommended!
