All Iron Hostel

There were cockroaches everywhere, and I even found one in the fridge. Bring your own towel, or you'll have to rent one for 3 euros each. Some people at reception spoke English and some didn't, but the woman was nice and helpful. I wouldn't stay here again. The location is near the center, though Bilbao is a fairly small, walkable city. Be ready for a lot of stairs. Breakfast was very poor, just bread and sugary things, with nothing savory. To eat normally, you basically have to buy your own food at a nearby supermarket.

It felt like staying in an actual shelter, except I was paying for it. The hostel was filthy and full of roaches, with "weird" people around and older people walking about in boxer briefs. From the start, the place seemed poorly maintained and never deep cleaned. I worried about my health every time I went to shower. It was gross. Everything is self-managed. I had to make my bed as soon as I arrived, which felt odd, though I let that go. At the end, we also had to collect our bed clothes. I don't mind doing that in itself, but combined with the dirtiness, it made me feel like they don't invest in cleaning staff or really put money into caring for customers. One of the worst hostels I've ever stayed in.

The bathroom and showers were poorly maintained, and I saw two cockroaches on my way out of the shower. The dorm room I stayed in, 03, had no air conditioning, and the bunk beds were impractical and uncomfortable. You had to pay extra for everything: a locker, towel, and bottom bunk. I heard the curly haired guy at reception ask a Spanish guest which bed they preferred, while he wanted me to pay for that choice. I guess you get treated differently if you're a gringo. Embarrassing. Service was pretty horrible. I'll never stay at this hostel again, and I'm baffled by its four stars. Maybe they bought reviews. This place should close down. What a waste.

We had a really unpleasant stay. The room was filthy, with sticky doors, handles, and beds, plus a bad smell like nachos. They only turned on the AC after we asked, when the heat had become unbearable. Even then, it was on the lowest setting for a few hours before they turned it off overnight. We woke up drenched in sweat because the room had become unbearably hot again.
