Hotel Bilbao Plaza

The reception team were consistently attentive and helpful, and the room was spacious, clean, modern and comfortable. It’s a hidden gem, with a great location within walking distance of the city center and old town, and public transport connections are excellent. I’d definitely return whenever I’m in Bilbao.

The hotel is nice, clean and well kept, and the rooms were clean too. Parking costs €19 per day. A heads-up if you bring a car: getting it into the elevator that takes you to the parking levels takes good maneuvering. We had a room overlooking the inner yard, with a direct view of the Bilbao Crematorium. At night, the bright light box with the large word "Tanatorio" was clearly visible. I found it unsettling and still felt creeped out after closing the curtains. The hotel is a good option if that doesn’t bother you, but otherwise you may want to stay elsewhere. After the first night I asked to change rooms. They said it was possible for an extra fee, but we’d already booked and paid for a city tour that day and couldn’t make the time they gave us for the room change. So we had to spend one more night in the same room.

It was a delight until the unfortunate end, when I had to go home. The receptionists were really welcoming and, if they didn’t know the answer to a question, they looked it up on their computer. I didn’t have breakfast, so I can’t comment on it, but nobody seemed sad or disappointed leaving the restaurant. I’d be happy to return.

The room was clean and a decent size, though pretty basic. It worked well as a base for exploring the city. I only tried breakfast once and found it disappointing. There wasn't a kettle in the room, but coffee was available by reception.
