The reception was the one real bright spot. The staff were polite, though they didn’t take much initiative. Breakfast was just okay, and I wouldn’t pay €10 for it if it hadn’t been included. At around €80 a room, or about €40 each, I didn’t find the Ibis Budget Bilbao City worth the price. It’s near a metro station, which is handy, but the centre is far enough that you’ll likely spend extra getting to Casco Viejo each day. My room was one of the worst I’ve stayed in: tiny, facing other rooms, and more like a hostel setup than a hotel. The toilet and shower were awkwardly separated, the sink was in the main room, and the shower was almost transparent, not great when sharing. Basic things like slippers, tea, and coffee weren’t provided. It fell well below the standard of other Ibis Budget hotels I’ve stayed at. There are better Bilbao options for the same money.

The transport links are handy: Autonomia train station is just across the road, and Bilbao Intermodal transport hub is a five-minute walk away. Staff were helpful, and check-in came with a very nice welcome. The room was spacious and clean, with a good shower. Breakfast had a good range of choices. There’s no fridge in the room.

It’s a handy 10-minute walk from the bus station, within walking distance of the old town, and right beside a lovely coffee bar/patisserie. The staff gave us a really lovely welcome. Our room was huge, clean, and had a very comfy bed and a great bathroom. The tea-making setup was nice, too.

The room was quiet and clean, and the hotel is very close to the city centre. Breakfast had a few problems, though. The room is really small, so getting a seat without waiting was a matter of luck. The hot drinks weren’t much better. The tea water only got to 70 degrees Celsius, and although the two coffee machines looked good, getting coffee from them was difficult.

Reception made me feel welcome, and the service was great. My room was clean and basic, exactly what I needed for a one-night stay, and I slept well. I didn’t take public transport, but nearby places of interest weren’t too far to walk. The Guggenheim museum was the longest walk at about 25 minutes, and Bilbao is a great city for walking.
