Ilunion Bilbao Hotel

There were a couple of annoying oversights: I found tissues under the bed, and there was no soap by the bathroom sink. The first-floor room also picked up loud music from the club downstairs late at night. I was exhausted and fell asleep right away, so it didn’t bother me much, but light sleepers should know about it. The room itself was huge, with a very large bathroom, and the staff were welcoming and friendly. Breakfast had a good range of choices. The location is excellent, close to the train station, stadium, and city center, so everything was easy to reach. A decent place for a night’s rest.

Great room temperature from the AC, and the modern bathroom had a powerful shower. The bath wash smelled good too. Very clean, would recommend.

For €150, this was absurd. The rooms were okay, but dark, with only three plugs, and cleaners were shouting along the halls at 8am. There’s a nightclub right beside the hotel, so weekend music was incredibly loud all night, even on the fourth floor. Don’t pay extra for breakfast. Both days the coffee machines were broken and food trays stayed empty for long stretches. The staff clattered plates into carts, and I didn’t trust the food, so I only tried some fruit. Even that was messed up. At 10am, a waiter noticed there was hardly any food and offered to prepare something. I asked for eggs, but didn’t even try them. The front desk staff were rude and talked over me. They seemed untrained in service, and I never saw one smile. I know it’s a 3 star hotel, but that price for this was too much.

The rooms were fine, but the service could be better, and communication from both booking.com and the hotel was nonexistent. The hotel charged me an extra 60% for my room because of an apparent booking.com error. On principle, I wouldn’t book with any Ilunion hotel.
