Checkin Blanes Hotel

The food was a mixed bag. The local dishes were brilliant, especially the tortilla and seafood soup, while the rest was okay. Fresh pastries were so tasty, still warm when served. The pool seemed to get little sun, so the water was cold, but we didn’t mind much with the longest beach in Costa Brava right at the doorstep. One day my son found yellow stains on his shorts after sitting by the pool. They looked like bleach, though maybe it was chlorine, I could be wrong. The staff were super friendly and helpful, the common areas looked great, and the hotel was very clean. The location is brilliant. The rooms really need updating, and not having a fridge was the biggest downside. It has the potential to be a brilliant hotel if the rooms were updated.

Our trip was ruined by a big school group of teenagers. They blasted music late into the night and ran around the hallways, so loudly we could hear them down the street. Staff wouldn’t do anything, and we had many sleepless nights. At check-in, staff kept our passports, and I still don’t know why. When we checked out, they said they didn’t have them. They eventually found them, but only after I kept asking them to actually look. It didn’t feel safe or reasonable, and the staff were rude and unhelpful. The rooms were very dated, the beds uncomfortable, and we could hear everything from above, outside, and around us. The one positive was the air conditioning, which was clearly new and worked very well.

The staff were friendly and very helpful, and the room was tidy. Housekeeping came every day. The hotel is near the beach, with a few neighborhood shops that are cheaper than the ones in the city center. There was a wide range of tasty food at dinner, though breakfast was less good. I expected some fresh vegetables, like tomato and cucumber, and the machine coffee with milk was horrible. If you want a good holiday without spending a fortune, this is the right place.

The sea was a bit challenging for us to swim in because the beach slopes down and we found it hard to climb out. But we love being so close to the beach, and the weather was amazing. We’re having a good time here, and the food and service are good. The buffet has variety, though it would make a big difference if water, tea, or coffee were included with meals. At present they’re only offered at breakfast. Our children bought this full-board holiday for our Golden Wedding. All the staff are helpful and multilingual. The excellent weather was a bonus, and we thoroughly recommend this family run hotel.
