Hotel Rural Los Calaos De Briones

It was a full house at lunchtime, but the service was still very good, and we never felt unwelcome. We ordered the quail pickle salad, vegetable stew and meat stew, and all three were excellent. This is more of an upscale local place, and we really enjoyed getting away from restaurants that mainly cater to tourists. I highly recommend the Restaurante Los Calais de Briones.

The service was good, and some of the mains had better flavour. The wines were fine, though not great value. My meal wasn't amazing: the alubias were underseasoned, the esparragos were very stringy and didn't taste fresh, and the bread rolls were stale. The lighting was too bright as well.

My girlfriend and I each ordered one dish, shared a bottle of water, paid €34.21 (not one cent more) and left. I had entrecôte, but the meat was tough and the vegetables were clearly frozen. The waiter was unfriendly and hovered over us uncomfortably while we chose, then forgot to bring bread until we were nearly done with the “meal”. The bread wasn't appetizing, yet it was still on the bill. This was dining at its worst. I can't see how this restaurant has earned its current almost four-star Google rating.

I came by for dinner on two consecutive nights because I really wanted to eat at your place. Briones is where my grandfather’s family comes from, and that’s the main reason I’m staying here instead of Haro or Logroño. Google says you're open late, but you're not, you close very early. I asked around, and locals told me you only open for lunch, from 1 pm to 5 pm. That sucks.
