We weren't sure when we'd arrive, so we hadn't booked the Michelin restaurant. We hoped they might still fit us in, but they couldn't. Even so, the two nights we spent here were wonderful, and I'll definitely stay again. The older historic building has been renovated into a remarkable luxury property, with understated five-star elegance. Our room was lovely, comfortable and beautiful. Everyone on staff was incredible, from Joel and Maria at reception to the bar and service teams. They were always smiling and went out of their way to help with anything we needed.

We had no car and walked to the wine museum. It was a pleasant walk in the October weather at 15C, though the hills are steep and you should allow time. I imagine navigating the narrow streets around the hotel would be difficult for someone unfamiliar with the area. The building keeps its old architectural charm while appearing to have been thoroughly updated with modern plumbing. Service was impeccable, and breakfast was excellent. We also recommend having dinner at the restaurant. We hope to return soon.

The breakfast spread was amazing, and the rooftop is a lovely place to catch the sunset over the countryside and vineyards. We also really enjoyed the courtyard and lounge, both beautiful spaces where you actually want to spend time. The team throughout the hotel were friendly and hospitable. It’s a great base for nearby towns and, especially, winery visits. The hotel is well appointed, and it’s clear they spared no cost on the building and decor. Our room was spacious, too. L’Occitane bath products, plush robes and memory foam slippers were nice touches.

We feel very grateful to have visited such a special place. The warmth and ease of the stay came in part from the owners, Javier and Maria, a loving, welcoming couple, and their daughter Raquel, who leads the homey experience. She is a darling, so beautiful and kind. Maria at reception made us feel welcome right away, and Christian did his best with his special bartending. The hotel’s design, rooms and food made for an unforgettable visit. Every detail had been done with class and care, while respecting the cultural heritage of this wonderful medieval town. The breakfast buffet had a lovely variety, and dinner was extraordinary. “A journey through La Rioja” really did feel like a taste of every corner of the region. We also ate in “El Calado”, a special underground place where wine was processed centuries ago. Many blessings to Juan, the wonderful chef, and Dulce, whose desserts were so delicious. I was lucky to visit another must, “The Museum of Vivanco”, where the history of Rioja wine is explained and demonstrated so well. Local friends joined us for a joyful dinner, and everything was served beautifully.

Raquel arranged some of the best winery tours we've ever taken, and Briones itself is an authentic, historic village in a great location. The hotel's staff were amazing, so helpful and a big part of what made our trip special. We loved the spacious, luxurious rooms and the striking architecture. The hotel is a beautifully renovated home built into the old town wall of Briones. Its Michelin star restaurant was fantastic, and the wines at the hotel were carefully selected. The whole stay was amazing.
