Alquimia Hostel

The hotel is in a beautifully preserved old building, with a central courtyard that gives the place a real sense of character. Its location puts you close to everything, and the staff are attentive and friendly without hovering. The roof terrace is a lovely place to relax, with well-made drinks, a nice atmosphere and views. A comfortable, characterful base for exploring. We’ll be back.

The staff were so friendly and helpful, and I’m very grateful to them. I loved the hotel’s charm, the comfortable bedroom and the modern bathroom. It’s in a great part of Cádiz old town, with the n°2 bus stop nearby if you can’t walk too far. The rooftop terrace is lovely, and the cocktails are delicious.

We had a great time upstairs, sipping cocktails from 4pm when the bar opens. The views are lovely, it’s quirky, and the atrium is splendid. The staff were friendly and helpful, and there’s parking if you arrange it directly with the owners. There’s also a Mercadona five minutes away, and no breakfast, which suited us as it meant we could explore and support local places. The sea is literally a minute’s walk away, with a nice restaurant on the corner and a little promenade cocktail hut a few minutes further on. It’s a 3 star hotel, so basic, and in our Room 6 there was loads of noise from the tiny cobbled street below from 6a.m onwards. We only stayed one night, but for a longer visit I’d ask for a quieter room. The shower was great, with good pressure and heat. We’d recommend it and come back.

The owners and receptionists Javi and Miguel were warm and welcoming, and all the staff were polite and helpful with information about Cadiz attractions. Jose was an exceptional host, among the best we’ve met on our travels. The hotel is in the old centre, a little eccentric to the cathedral, and has real charm in its architecture and decor. There are lovely paintings in the hallways and lounge, spacious rooms with traditional furniture, and everything was very clean. Upstairs, there’s a beautiful garden and a rooftop terrace bar with ocean views. There’s no hotel parking, but they have an arrangement with a public car park at a good price. A characterful place at a very decent price.
