Apartamentos Maier

The windows face the inside of the building, so there isn’t much natural light. Still, the location is good: you step right out onto one of Cadiz’s nicest streets, close to the beach. The room was a decent size with the expected amenities, the bed was fairly comfortable, and the kitchen was well stocked.

The apartment was very clean and tidy when we arrived, and our first night’s sleep was phenomenal. On day two, after exploring Cádiz and the beaches, we got back in the early evening to find the air conditioning wasn’t working. We messaged the host on WhatsApp, and they said they’d turned it off for the season. The next two nights were miserable. We had to leave the windows open, and street lights and loud noise came in until around 4:30 each morning. Not being able to sleep in the apartment really affected our stay. I think heating and cooling should be treated as an essential amenity.

The shared roof terrace has comfortable seating and lovely views. The outside penthouse and terrace areas look like they might be due for a refresh soon. We’ve stayed at Apartmentos Maier several times since its original renovation and plan to return. It’s on a quiet street near restaurants, bars, and Caleta beach, in a lively but authentic neighbourhood with churches, schools, and playgrounds. The building is beautifully designed and cared for, and the staff are friendly, helpful, and respectful of guests’ privacy. Nothing is too much trouble. The interior paint seems to be refreshed every year, and the beds are comfortable. We especially like the modern kitchen and dining area opening onto a terrace. The sunbeds are a little tricky for us now that we’re older. Apartmentos Maier is a real asset to visitors and to La Vina.

The reception team were professional and helpful, and the apartment was spotless, well equipped, and in a great location. There was quite a bit of noise from outside and from elsewhere in the building, which meant we got less sleep than we needed. It wasn’t entirely the apartment’s fault, but it’s why I didn’t give five stars.
