I was meant to drive from Marbella for one night, but after hearing about Storm Leonardo’s damage along the Andalucian coast, I contacted Plaza Minas Suites to ask if I could move my booking. Roads were damaged, rivers and streams flooded, homes were under water, and outages had thrown the region into chaos. I’d booked just a week before the storm, and hadn’t paid the cancellation fee because I never imagined severe weather would stop me reaching Cadiz. The front desk manager, Conchi Moreno, refused to change the date. He said the storm wasn’t that bad and I’d be fine, even after I sent several transportation department warnings telling people not to drive until it passed. He said I should have bought cancellation insurance. I understand the idea of being safe rather than sorry, but this was an extraordinary situation. Who expects a catastrophic storm to hit the area, and who tells someone to drive through it anyway? A little kindness would have gone a long way. I’ll visit Cadiz, but I’ll never stay at this hotel.

The listing sold us a luxury apartment in a renovated historic building, but after booking they assigned us somewhere else. It was an ordinary old residential building, with no terrace, and neither the building nor its location matched the photos. We only found out at check-in. Before that, they just said the luxury apartments were at a different address, without being straight about the change. It felt like a total fraud. The staff seemed to know people were being misled and didn’t care, and booking.com didn’t help either. I can’t recommend this place.

The rooms in the old quarter are lovely and spacious, and the roof terrace is nice. The problem is the location by busy Plaza Minas. Young people stay out late, then loud, drunk people shout, so sleeping is tough. Such a shame.

Check-in and checkout were easy, and the apartment was clean, roomy, and right in the center. There’s an underground car park in the nearby square at a reasonable price, and the building’s top terrace has nice views. We had a street-facing room, though, and the poor insulation let in a lot of noise, even late at night. It made for a very uncomfortable night’s sleep. One bathroom also faces the building’s inner hallway, which got noisy at times during our stay.

Right in the heart of Cádiz, with really spacious, comfortable apartments. They’re fully equipped and have air conditioning, and the service is amazing.
