Neptuno Hotel & SPA

We were in an apartment, so we cooked for ourselves or ate out and didn’t try the food. We also skipped the spa and wellness area, so I can’t comment on that. The gym seemed well equipped and was getting plenty of use. On Wednesday evening we enjoyed a performance on the outside terrace by local singer Maria. Guests in the apartments can use the hotel facilities, including the adults-only rooftop pool with its great view of town and the sea nearby. There’s another pool too, a little bigger and with more shade. The beach, train station, restaurants and bars are all within walking distance. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The one thing that sometimes bothered us was the music playing constantly by the pool and in the outdoor bar area. It felt intrusive at times, though that’s a matter of personal taste. We were very happy with the stay.

We had a wonderful two-night stay with our 3-year-old pug. The hotel is modern, recently refurbished and comfortable, and every staff member we met was exceptionally kind and attentive. Our dog was welcomed warmly by staff and guests, with lots of smiles and people stopping to say how lovely he was. In the room, the hotel had left a dog blanket, food and water bowls, and a bag of treats. A thoughtful touch. There are some pet rules to know about. Dogs can’t go on the beds or be left alone in the room at any time. That was a little frustrating because our pug is trained to stay alone briefly, and we have a camera to check on him by phone. Dogs also can’t go on the roof terrace, so we couldn’t enjoy it together or book a couples’ massage at the spa. They are allowed in the downstairs bar and on the outside terrace by the pool, which was a lovely place to relax with drinks. Dogs can’t enter the dining hall at mealtimes, so you walk around the pool to the outdoor tables. We found this confusing the first night, but once we understood it, it was fine. Seating is limited when it rains, though some tables are covered. The buffet breakfast and dinner were both very good. I can be fussy with buffets, but the chefs made my eggs just how I like them in the morning, and cooked my fish and meat perfectly right in front of me. For walks, there’s a huge park just uphill from the hotel, great for morning and evening outings and enjoyable for us too. The dog-friendly beach is a ten-minute walk away. It was clean, spacious and quiet, with showers for people and dogs. We kept our pug on a leash because the fence doesn’t reach all the way to the sea, and a gate by the road had been left open. Aside from that, it felt very safe. I’d recommend this hotel to people with or without dogs. If you bring a pet, be aware that you won’t be able to use some facilities even though you pay for your dog’s stay. Without a dog, you can access the pools, terraces, spa and other amenities, with warm, professional service.

Calella is lovely, with a clean beach, and it’s easy to get to Barcelona by public transport. The town is close enough that exploring the region was simple and enjoyable. This was our fourth visit to Hotel Neptuno, and we’re already looking forward to coming back. The whole team made us feel welcome from the start, with real warmth, attentiveness and empathy. The rooms were comfortable and beautifully designed, and the calm atmosphere even let me complete an important online job interview successfully during our stay. The food was a highlight, prepared with care. There was live cooking, fresh fruit and a wide range of dishes. It was a wonderful experience that we can wholeheartedly recommend.

Our group stayed in several rooms for Ironman. The Senegalese cook at breakfast was amazing, both the food and his attitude. He deserves tremendous special recognition. The live music from 9 to 10:30 p.m. was far too loud and made it impossible to sleep two nights before Ironman. Garbage trucks in the middle of the night also made it really hard to sleep on the street side. Still, well done overall.
