Can Margarit

The setting is charming, peaceful, and private if you book the whole place. We loved sharing it with the local wildlife: the huge toad by the front door and its babies in the pool, an enormous hare passing by at dinner, a fox sniffing around the BBQ, and a big rhino beetle dropping from a tree onto the table to the children’s delight. In the mornings, beautiful golden orioles woke us with their fluty trills. Pure charm. The pool was fantastic. The furniture was old and a bit shabby, which was actually perfect with young children, and thank goodness there were no antiques. Our bed was very comfortable, though the single beds weren’t. We needed somewhere within driving distance of an airport with direct flights from Newark NJ, with a salt water pool and four apartments. Can Margerit ticked all those boxes, and the stay worked out well. The kitchen was the main letdown if you wanted to cook anything hot. We tried to make tea on arrival, but there was no kettle, and no small saucepan, so we had to use the big one. There was nothing to light the gas with except an expired cigarette lighter in a drawer. The Nespresso machine would have been nice if there had been coffee inserts. We managed coffee in a pot, but there was no coffee pot or jug either. One night I made pallella for everyone, gathering a pan, chopping board, and knives from different apartments. The knives weren’t sharp enough to give an onion any anxiety. Around the pool, there were only three parasols, and just one was usable, so shade was scarce if you arrived late.
