Apartamentos Ambar Beach (2-7º-D)

My 16th-floor apartment had a great view, and it was a handy base for exploring Calpe and nearby Altea. Altea is just a 25-minute drive away, and I’d definitely recommend visiting its old town for a day. In Calpe, the beach is a five-minute walk, with plenty of restaurants and pubs close by. There are three supermarkets nearby, one right opposite the hotel and two more about five minutes away on foot. An ATM and the tourist train are around the corner. The train loops around Calpe, stopping by the seafront, harbour, and old town before returning near the hotel. It costs 4 euros per person and is a good way to get your bearings. I stayed at Ambar beach hotel from 19 May to 26 May 2022 in a self-catering one-bedroom apartment. It had a mini fridge that suited my needs, bed linen, sheets, and extra blankets. The kitchen was well supplied with utensils, pots, frying pans, plenty of dishes and glasses, including a large beer glass for enjoying the view indoors. There are lovely swimming pools on the grounds. I’d definitely recommend staying here to explore Calpe, Spain.

I had everything I needed, including a fully equipped kitchen, and the location was convenient. I stayed a few days in winter to go bike riding, and there’s a bike rental shop just a couple hundred metres away that’s open seven days a week.

The place was spacious, and the sea views from the 17th floor were fantastic. But it smelled really musty and wasn’t as clean as I expected. It needs a complete refurbishment and is very basic. There was an iron and ironing board, but no kettle, which felt like a pretty important thing to leave out. We stayed for the Ceroc Dance Week.

The mattress wasn’t to my taste, and because the apartment is small there’s no space for a large fridge, so groceries need to be bought daily. Those were my only real drawbacks. Joan was friendly and attentive from my first contact, and the one-bedroom place was very clean and close to La Fossa beach. The pool was peaceful, sometimes we had it to ourselves, and the afternoon breeze was lovely. The enclosed garage was great for keeping the car protected from scratches or damage while parking. There’s a Mercadona and a Consum supermarket just across the street. When I had trouble with the washing machine because I hadn’t closed it properly, they quickly sent a handyman to sort it out. I highly recommend it!
