Hotel Gaya

A couple of the waiters and waitresses were very friendly, and the hotel is conveniently placed for the beach and buses to Palma de Mallorca. The rest of our stay last year was disappointing. Our corner room was next to a bar where a singer or karaoke crowd played the same songs every night until midnight. From the balcony, we could see electric cables and little of the pool or anything pleasant. We politely asked reception three times during the week to move us. They admitted there were rooms free but showed no interest in changing ours. Service at the bar was almost nonexistent. At the evening buffet, we were asked what we wanted to drink only after we'd given up and brought our own. The buffet was dull and the same every day. One other thing, more about the clientele than the hotel itself: most guests seemed to be over 60, and many left towels on all the sun loungers all day for the 30 minutes they actually spent by the pool.

I came back in 2023 after staying here in 2018, and very little seemed to have changed. The food, room and service left me unhappy. On arrival we were put beside two noisy restaurants, with music coming into the room every night from 9 pm until midnight. Rooms facing the pool were a little quieter, but the music was still audible. They described that first room as renovated, but it seemed worse than the others. The balcony was on a street corner, so people could see into the room unless the curtains were closed. Those curtains were black, meaning no natural light when shut. After asking for another room, we got one that was better in some ways, but its furniture looked old and yellow. The bathroom was okay, although the toilet didn't flush properly. In the supposed renovated room, a hole in the shelf floor made it useless for our luggage. The older room had a usable shelf and enough places to hang clothes. Wi-Fi varied from room to room. The air conditioning worked well, better than at some other hotels. Breakfast was required and cost 15 euros per person, but wasn't worth it. It ran from 8 to 10 am, and although we were told dishes would be replenished with fresh food, bread, butter and chocolate had run out and still weren't replaced at 8:30. Even after asking politely, we couldn't get a proper breakfast. Hotel staff also ate the same food, leaving less for guests. I'd suggest eating elsewhere. Housekeeping was also frustrating. If they couldn't clean the room, they knocked on the door every hour until we finally left.

The evenings were quiet even though the hotel is in central Peguera, so we slept well. Our room was cleaned daily, and the staff were always kind and helpful. There's free Wi-Fi, a private garden pool and you can have breakfast beside the pool in the sun. Food was really delicious, especially dinner, though breakfast was the same each day. Gaya is also near the beach. I definitely recommend staying here.

The staff were extremely rude, and our room wasn't ready when we checked in. Cleaners shout in the hallways every morning. If you want to sleep past 8 am, good luck.
