We didn’t stay at the hotel, which looks lovely. This is about the restaurant and, specifically, the head waiter (HW), who spoiled our evening. We’d booked a table "with a view" two days ahead, but when we arrived HW said it wasn’t available. He brought the wrong wine and a litre of water instead of the 500ml we’d ordered, then tried to upsell our beer. We ordered from the menu but were charged a very different, much higher price, and refused to pay it, to his annoyance. After we asked for the bill, we waited a long time. Then he pushed the card machine at us. When we said we needed time to check the bill, he sent another waiter over within seconds with the machine again. We asked to pay in Euros, but he put the transaction through in £ sterling, which is expensive for foreign exchange. He insisted the receipt showed Euros, but that was only in small print as a conversion comparison. We definitely paid in £ sterling, and he was prepared to lie about it. The food was excellent, but HW should be avoided. He lets the hotel restaurant down badly.

We chose this hotel for its spot by the cove, and that part was wonderful. It was busy every day, with people sunbathing on stone decks built into the rocks and swimming in the water. The "beach" was more small stones than sand, but still lovely. Early morning snorkelling was magical, and we walked along the coast to find a rocky deck where we could jump straight into the sea. The walk into town takes about 15-20 minutes. It’s doable, but not much fun in the sun, so we usually took a taxi back after dinner. The long driveway was tricky for some taxis, and we walked it a couple of times. It felt long in the heat, though there’s also a shortcut using steps on the other side. Staff apologised even though it wasn’t their fault, which was sweet. The hotel is listed as five-star, but it feels more like a step back to the 80s than a modern, glossy place. Some guests had complained about the dated decor and facilities, and I can see why. Still, that gives it charm and personality. It’s not a sterile, cookie-cutter resort, and we loved that. The staff were exceptional, friendly, attentive, and hard-working. Our room was huge and comfortable, with a beautiful four-poster bed, large mirrors, and a well-stocked fridge. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and we slept so well. The balcony was another highlight, with sunbeds, chairs, a small table, room to dry clothes, and a gorgeous sea view. The bathroom looked smart and had plenty of toiletries. The shower was big and lovely to use, though the head kept flopping down and needed replacing. A small issue like that keeps it from modern five-star standards. Our bathroom had no window, though that may have been because of our room’s location. Breakfast was delicious every day, with a huge buffet of fresh food and a menu for eggs cooked every possible way, crepes, toasties, and different Spanish takes on an ‘English breakfast’. I loved watching the tiny birds flit about, and cheekily feeding them. We were half-board and didn’t try the dinner restaurants, but had lunch once. It was a little pricey, but very, very good. There are lots of little seating corners around the hotel, and the main pool is spread across different levels, with smaller pools and an adults-only area too. There were hardwood and soft foam sunbeds, plus sun decks with different views. It never felt overcrowded while we were there. We didn’t use the spa, but looked around at the jacuzzi, sauna, and steam rooms in their grand setting. Booking.com had older pictures of things like a BBQ area that clearly hadn’t been used in a long time. The hotel is very clean, but dated, and you can see how much effort goes into maintaining it. It must cost a fortune to run. This isn’t a modern five-star hotel, and you’re paying for the amazing views and peaceful setting more than a luxury experience. For someone who values charm, history, and warm staff over perfection and polished marble, it’s a gem. It has heart and character, and we genuinely loved our stay. We’d return in a heartbeat.

The setting is stunning, with the ocean just 100 meters away and easy to reach through a beautiful cove. Swimming there each day was a joy. The terraces are spread over several levels, with three separate pools and peaceful spots to unwind. Breakfast was plentiful, the staff were warm and helpful, and there’s parking at the hotel. Hotel Petit Cala Fornells has plenty to like, but it’s an old-school place, and the rooms feel dated while the restaurant is average. It’s listed as five-star, though I’d personally give it four. The views and tranquil setting are what you’re really paying for, rather than a luxury hotel experience. It was still a soulful, relaxing stay.

We had four magical days here, and the staff were more than amazing, always smiling, helpful, and professional. Our rooms were clean and spacious, with big terraces and stunning views. The hotel has lots of clean, quiet swimming pools, including an indoor one. The food was extremely good. A very qualified chef treated us to delicious “paellas”, fish, and plenty of other dishes from a varied menu. We ate lunch and dinner at different restaurants in the hotel, and both had breathtaking views. Breakfast was generous, with a wide choice of cheeses, breads, salmon, vegetables, and food for different tastes. You could ask the chef for different kinds of omelettes, and the breakfast view was stunning too. They made good drinks and smoothies and brought them to the pool. One day there was guitar music, and another day someone played the violin. Both were beautiful. I’ll definitely come back!

The food was middling, and the place is fine if you’re happy staying by the pool. It was probably amazing in the 80s, but I assume nothing has changed since then. The property feels worn down and outdated. We also left some jewellery behind and haven’t been able to get in touch with them, which is very disappointing.
