Voramar Cambrils

The food was spot on, with lots of choice and generous portions. The pool was great, with a lifeguard on duty, and the rooms were lovely and clean with daily maid service. We visited a little out of season, so our room wasn’t fully equipped for self-catering, and I can’t comment on that. Otherwise, fabulous.

The meals were the weakest part of our two-week stay at Hotel Voramar. Food, especially the hot options, was limited and barely changed from day to day. Dishes often ran out and weren’t replenished quickly, sometimes staying empty, like the vanilla mousse that was gone 45 minutes before dinner ended. I started calling it “Hotel Empty.” On three occasions, the waiting staff only asked if we wanted a drink after we’d finished eating, despite passing our table several times. Sometimes there were no free tables, so we had to wait with our food in hand while it got cold. The room itself was decent and clean, and we could check in at noon, earlier than we’re used to. It was spacious for a hotel room, with a living area and small kitchenette, plus a fridge and a roomy balcony. The furniture was basic, and the sofa bed wasn’t comfortable to sit on. Shower temperature fluctuated, and cleaners sometimes missed the soap, though reception had some. Wi-Fi at reception is free; in-room access is €16 a week, which isn’t too bad, but we didn’t use it. The room safe costs €35 weekly, which felt outrageous. There were plenty of organized activities, mostly for kids. We enjoyed the live music at one 80s evening. The following week’s event had a real-life Pac-Man game or something instead, with no live music, and we didn’t enjoy it nearly as much, perhaps because it was more geared toward children. We also tried “bingo loco,” but it went too fast to follow all the numbers, especially when some were called only in Spanish and not English. The pool is large, though it got busy in the late afternoon. Three times in one week it closed early because apparently a child had pooped in the water. There were lots of loungers and tables with chairs, and the bar’s drinks were reasonably priced. More shady spots would be welcome. The hotel is decent, with nice rooms and a pleasant pool area, but the dining experience fell well below what I’ve had at other hotels. There isn’t much to do nearby, although the bus goes to Cambrils, Salou, Tarragona, and beyond.

The apartment had recently been refreshed, and the sofa bed was really comfortable. We wanted a relaxing holiday, but the pool doesn’t open until 11am and the kids’ club activities make the area noisy. The kitchen was poorly stocked, without even a bottle opener. Breakfast was good, the apartment was cleaned daily, and the air conditioning worked excellently.

A family-focused apart-hotel with decent apartments and nice facilities. We had half board, including breakfast and dinner. The food was okay, though it could be better. All in all, a good experience.
