Camping Santa Tecla

It was very quiet at night when I stayed about a month ago. Apart from a couple of long-term residents, I seemed to be the only one there. The reception lady was really helpful, and I could use plenty of clean toilets and showers, as well as the washing machines. It’s a huge site, though, so I imagine it feels quite different in summer!

The flat estuary location is great for cycling, and there are lots of long-term residents. If you’re camping, pick your pitch carefully. Ours was up in the far right corner by the back fence, which was shady and peaceful. The sanitary blocks are modern, spacious and clean, and the reception lady was kind and helped us through a problem we had. The pool can get too busy for access at certain times, which is frustrating, especially when visitors are also allowed into the park. Music playing loudly around the pool all morning and afternoon gets tiresome, so it’s better to camp as far from it as you can. I’d choose a spot as far to either side of reception as possible.

The location right by the estuary is stunning, and it’s a short walk, or an even shorter drive, to lovely beaches and Monte Santa Trega. Staff were lovely, and the shower block was clean and warm. Pitches are large, with electricity available if you have a long cable. There’s a designated dog toilet area, which is okay, though it means camping nearby. The liability form felt quite intense. I’d definitely recommend the place. It was incredible value at €5.50 for a van and two adults.

The park put on parties that went on until 3 or 4 a.m., and there was no control of noise at night. Cleaning of the facilities happened at long intervals, leaving some toilets unusable, and hot water for showers was missing at some busy times. The pool felt full even with only a few people, as its capacity is limited. There also wasn’t enough security at the park entrances. I hope some of these problems can be fixed. It was better last year.
