Cal Baró d'Abella

We spent a weekend here as a family, and the outdoor space was fantastic for the children. The one thing we didn't like was the pool cover. It's torn, so the children could cut themselves, and it also keeps the sun off the pool, leaving the water very cold. It's a shame, because the pool would be much more enjoyable in summer without the cover. If the pool is being offered as heated in winter, the cover should be in good condition. Better to have a pool available only in the warmer months than a half-done solution that's not enjoyable in summer, and I imagine not in winter either.

The house is in a great location, with exceptional surroundings, and the garden and exterior are lovely. The heated pool is nice too. Inside, the fireplace and a whirlpool tub in every room are good features, but there's plenty that needs attention. The shower head on one bathtub didn't work, so after soaping up you couldn't rinse off, and we ran out of toilet paper on the first day. Maintenance is generally lacking. Worst of all were the mattresses: they're in very poor shape, you sink into them, and the springs dig into your back. If you're coming to relax, forget it.

The grounds were lovely, and the swimming pool was very pleasant. Miquel, thank you for that, and thank you to Pilar for the warm welcome and her excellent French. The renovated former barn has become a wonderful house, well located and tastefully decorated while keeping the original character of the building. Everything makes you want to come back.

The setting was just right, and the house was beautiful. We especially enjoyed the pool and paddle tennis as extras. Pilar and Miquel were so lovely, and we had a wonderful time. We'd definitely return.
