I was a bit skeptical after reading the reviews when we booked this campsite, but I was wrong. Our beachfront pitch had stunning views on both sides, and the electricity worked well the whole time. The staff were pleasant, the food was lovely, and security was good. The gates to the beach locked around 9 pm, but it was only a two-minute walk to the beach from the main entrance. There were plenty of restaurants and bars within five minutes. The showers were great and the washing machines worked fine. Nights were mostly quiet. Some music played until the permitted time, then stopped. It’s a typical Spanish campsite with a slower pace, so drinks and food took a little longer than usual, but were worth the wait.
We picked this campsite because it allowed arrivals until midnight. There were seven of us, so we booked two parcels, one for the camper and one for a tent, since the camper didn’t have enough beds. When our flight was delayed and we risked arriving after 12, we called to explain and ask what was possible. We didn’t mind sleeping outside the campsite with the camper for a night, since driving in after midnight could make noise. But we agreed to check in online for the tent parcel and sent our ID details. They said everything was fine and that the tent parcel was checked in, which meant we could set it up after midnight. We arrived somewhat after midnight, but the rude, cold security guy refused to let us in. He said he didn’t care that we were checked in and wouldn’t allow us to put up a tent after 12 because of possible noise. It’s a two-second setup tent, and of course we’d have been respectful. He also said we’d been told this would happen, but that wasn’t true. Late entry was precisely why we’d agreed to online check-in. He stayed cold and firm despite our discussion, so we had to set up the tent on the street in very precarious conditions.
The beach is amazing, and the campsite is close to supermarkets and restaurants. Some pitches don’t have natural shade, so bring an extra tent for cover. It gets pretty noisy at night from Friday through the weekend because of live music and parties at a nearby hotel. The toilets and showers are dirty and too few for the number of visitors, and the kids’ playground and football field are very poor. I guess it depends what you want from a camping holiday. For me, it was too noisy and lacked many facilities and nature.
We had a really nice holiday at Vall D'or Camping last week. We were a couple in a tent for four nights, right next to the beach and Mediterranean sea. Our pitch was in the middle of the site, probably one of the cheaper ones, but it was still big enough for a six-person tent and a large car. Electricity was about 10€ extra per day, plus a 20€ deposit for the connection cable. There’s music and daily activities for kids and adults, along with a bakery and a lovely restaurant and bar. The staff, from reception to the bar and the security guard who greeted people with a big smile every day, were all very friendly and helpful. Platja d'aro is less than a five-minute walk away, with a Lidl, Tedi, bakeries, a petrol station, and other shops. I can understand the other reviews: there can be noise during the day and evening from people playing music and kids’ summer camps in part of the site. But that’s what I expected in the middle of summer, and it didn’t bother us. The campsite’s quiet rules are followed, and things settle down by 2300 each day. If you want a quiet caravan club style site, this isn’t for you. We drove from England, and it was well worth it.
I was quoted €42 over the phone for one night alone outside with my bike, then charged €61 at reception two hours later. They ignored my objections. I also paid €9 extra for electricity to charge my phone, but it didn’t work until the next day, despite me asking. For €70 I got a pitch shared with other campers. In the evening, three families parked their caravans around me and walked through my spot. I moved twice during the night when families started dinner right beside me. It was very loud, I slept badly, and this was my worst camping experience. Never again. Scammers.
