Hotel Castell Blanc

The staff were relaxed about everything, which helped a lot while traveling with children. Justine at reception was amazingly helpful when we were getting our bearings, and speaks Spanish, German, French, and English, a huge help when you’re new to the area. Our room was clean and comfortably cooled, with a little fridge for our own drinks. You can also get chilled beverages at reception around the clock. The hotel is very nice, and the pool is amazing. Breakfast is good for the price, and lunch is excellent. It’s a bit of a walk to the sea, but the other advantages more than make up for that. There are lots of activities nearby, including sky diving. We’ll definitely come back if we get the chance!

The pool and outdoor area are really nice, and the rooms are spacious, though a bit dated, with mattresses that aren’t the most comfortable. Breakfast has a decent selection. The restaurant’s options are very limited, and it doesn’t really feel set up for dining in.

I’d advise fellow travelers from Britain to think twice about visiting Castell Blanc in Empuriabrava Spain. The atmosphere can feel restrictive, with lots of rules that may make you uncomfortable. I also encountered instances of racism, which made the experience negative. You might feel more welcome and relaxed somewhere else. Even when there’s only a light wind, they close the umbrellas so they don’t get broken. That’s despite the sun being strong enough to burn your skin.

Breakfast had loads to choose from, and there are tables indoors and out for eating. The staff were friendly, even the night guard was welcoming. The rooms look a little dated, but everything is well looked after and has what you need. The air conditioning works wonders, just remember to switch it on before the Spanish summer heat wakes you up.
