Hotel Emporium - Adults Only

I was sent here for a four-day work stay. When I arrived, there was nobody at check-in. They'd left my room card in an envelope inside the hotel, so I had to wonder how I was meant to get in and collect it without bothering someone. The staff came across as rude, like my booking was a nuisance instead of income for the hotel. My girlfriend joined me. I understand that a room for two might cost more than one for one, but rather than discussing it with me, the hotel made a big issue of it with my employer. The email said, “Understandably the hotel also was not happy that they were not informed beforehand.” Is putting two people in a room made for two really so complicated? My company told me the extra charge would be 90€, which wasn't a problem to begin with. The hotel insisted on 100€, and I have the invoice. Even after I paid for my girlfriend, breakfast wasn't provided for her. I had to make a very serious request to get the service we were supposed to receive. Wouldn't recommend it. If my company sends me here again, I'll try to avoid it.

Dinner at bistro 1965 was one of the best meals I've had for the price. We also loved the family-owned hotel and restaurants. It was refreshing to have real interactions instead of the usual hotel-brand experience. Such a lovely stay. It's a shame it's so far from home, but we'll be back!

The meal at the Michelin starred restaurant, Emporium in Castello D’Empuries, was a perfect way to finish our day. Everything felt like a treat, from the calm dining room and warm welcome to the careful descriptions of each course. The food was exquisite, delicious and unusual, and the wines paired with the courses were spectacular. A wonderful evening all around.

The room was miserable. The air conditioner barely worked before bed, then had no power when we woke up. Nobody answered when we tried to get help, and the room never cooled below 80f. Even the refrigerator barely kept anything cold.
