Posada Villa Matilde

Breakfast was a real highlight. During our COVID-19 visit, staff brought everything to the table instead of having us use the buffet, and the Posada followed the rules more carefully than some other hotels we stayed at in Cantabria. The choice was limited but everything was good: jam or tuna sandwiches, several juices that weren’t freshly made, cereals, homemade cake, frisuelos baked by the owner’s mother, tomato toast, fruit, coffee and tea. We found it more than enough. Laura and her parents were the best part of the stay. They did everything they could to make us comfortable, and we’d love to see Laura again. If you want to avoid extra taxes through booking, you can contact the owner directly on WhatsApp using the number on the website. She can also arrange free cancellation, which makes the stay cheaper and gives you a chance to meet her. We were six people in three rooms. Each room was spacious, spotless, and had a very comfortable mattress and its own bathroom. The rooms are all decorated differently. The host can provide extra beds, cribs, blankets, or pillows if needed. The building has two floors and seven rooms, and was recently renovated while keeping its sixteenth-century character. It’s a beautiful old place. The Posada is in tiny Pumareña, right in the Valle de Liébana. Potes, Cahecho, Santo Toribio de Liébana, Mogrovejo, Picos de Europa, and the region’s other main sights are only about a 10-minute drive away. There’s parking right in front, plus another lot a short distance away if that one is full. We were glad we booked here.

Go for it! The scenery is magnificent, and the place feels beautiful and authentic. It was spotless and comfortable, with warm, friendly staff who were happy to help. Breakfast came with good homemade pastries.

We stayed in the attic room, which was spacious and beautifully clean, and breakfast was delicious. My son thought it was heavenly. The woman running the place is lovely. It’s a great choice if you’re after peace and quiet. There’s an outdoor spot for eating and drinking too, though you have to bring your own food and drinks.

Tranquility was exactly what we wanted, and we got it. We stayed for six days and would definitely come back. The owners were super friendly and attentive whenever we needed anything. The house, its spectacular views, and the relaxing patio were lovely, and the rooms were great. Breakfast was very good too, and everything was super clean. A 10/10 for us.
