Hotel Rural Palacio de Libardon

The breakfast was outstanding, with lots of choice and plenty of local and homemade items. The building is a charming country house in rustic Asturian style, with space to spread out, gardens, a lounge, bar, and games room. The interior valley setting is beautiful, and the staff are really friendly and competent, with great service. It's 20 minutes from the beach and 15 from Colunga, the nearest decent-sized town. There are some maintenance issues lately. Bathroom fittings, door locks, and closures caused problems for us and our friends. Our lock made opening the door stressful because we worried about waking half the corridor. There's also a second door to a shared balcony that we felt could be more secure. I don't think there's a crime risk here, but that's not the point. I also didn't like cleaners leaving our door open while they were away. If you go to bed early or are a light sleeper, avoid the first floor because noise carries up from the restaurant and bar below, though the wifi signal there is good. The hotel seems to attract families with children, and it's definitely kid-friendly. In Spain that meant little kids running around unsupervised and doing what they do best until 1am. The pool table and table football get a lot of wear and dirt. This should be less of an issue once schools are back in September. The drive winds constantly for 15 minutes into a lovely valley and started to feel repetitive after a couple of trips. Still, I'd happily stay again. I guess that drive is the price of this kind of tranquillity. It really is a rustic idyll. I'd recommend the hotel with some reservations, and you'd be better off going in fully informed to avoid disappointment.

The hosts were lovely and welcoming, and the food was very good. This magnificent historic building sits in a stunning, peaceful location and was extremely clean.
