Camping La Rosaleda

We booked a large pitch while passing through on our way to Portugal, and had no trouble manoeuvring our 7.5m motorhome into it. The wash facilities were tidy and clean, and the seven-minute shower limit didn’t bother us. There were lots of long-stay guests in winter, but everyone was friendly. Check-in has a big parking area, and the site felt spacious. We didn’t try the restaurant, so can’t comment on it. Would definitely stay again.

There are separate cycle paths starting just outside the gate, making for great rides toward Conil, Cape Trafalgar and beyond to Canos de Meca, or the other way past Conil lighthouse to Chiclana. Conil de la Frontera is a nice town, with the impressive Cathedral Santa Catalina (Saint Catherine of the Wheel), part of a 1567 Franciscan monastery whose cloisters now house the town hall. The site is open all year and, like many along the Costas, attracts long-stay guests. For passers-by, though, the ACSI rate was only 21 Euros, including 4 kWh of electricity, with extra power at a very modest cost. The WiFi started out well but stopped working altogether after Christmas. Facilities are old but functional, with a good laundry and book swap. The washing-up sinks share one hot tap, so bring your own bowl. Toilet and shower door locks were loose and ill-fitting, and one of us got locked in for a while. There was only one motorhome water point, right at the top next to the car wash. The steep hillside and uneven terraces meant everyone needed ramps, airbags, or jacks. Pitches were generally too small and often overhung by trees. We had to change our allocated pitch and find one ourselves, as many others were doing. The expensive a la carte restaurant was actually closed over Christmas.

The toilets and showers were clean and well looked after, and the site was well organized. It’s mainly for motorhomes, though cabins are available, and there’s a cafe restaurant on site. The supermarket was closed when we visited in January. There isn’t much to do in winter, though other facilities are available in summer. It’s a short walk to town and the beach along a busy road, but having a bike would be better.

The staff made our stay, always ready to help and doing it with a smile. We also found the facilities spotless, with plenty of toilet blocks and water points around the site. Our pitches were roomy and screened by large hedges. It’s a good walk into town or down to the beach, particularly in the heat, so a taxi helps, and a bike is even handier. We really enjoyed our three nights here. A top class site.
