Conil Homes III Apartments

The host was friendly and the location is good. The apartment doesn't quite look like the photos, though, and it's very damp. The patio is badly neglected too. We think this may be a common problem, but it doesn't seem to get any maintenance. Apart from that, it's fine.

The owner was friendly and helpful whenever we needed something, and the apartment was clean and had the kitchenware we needed. That, along with the location, is why I'm giving it two stars. The place is tiny throughout. The shower is barely a 50 cm tray behind an ancient curtain that sticks to you, and the bathroom floods no matter how carefully you use it. Upstairs, the bedroom is reached by a cramped spiral staircase that's awkward and unsafe, especially with a suitcase. The bed is uncomfortable, with only two little cushions instead of pillows, and there’s no wardrobe, just a clothes rail. Another flight of stairs leads to a small, empty terrace with no chairs, nothing like the photos or the advertised “wow” spot. The bar's extractor fan is the main thing you see and smell. We stayed in “the apartment.” We knew from the pictures not to expect much, but did expect somewhere comfortable. Thankfully we're not disabled, because getting in, let alone reaching the room, would have been impossible. It's very noisy beside the bar, and the glass bottle collection starts chaos from 8 AM. Parking is a miserable lot where finding a space is a matter of luck, followed by hauling all your things up a steep hill.

There was no real communication, just standard WhatsApp messages and no face-to-face contact. When we asked about insecticide, the reply came the next day as a generic goodbye message. The listing showed a double bed, but we got two bunk beds and a mousetrap. The bathroom is so small it floods up to the door, with only a curtain that blows down and no screen. We also found two crickets, and the damp earth walls were covered with plasterboard. There's no washing machine in the kitchen. The location is known to be noisy, but you can't even have breakfast properly, with tables made from pallets and wooden boxes. A complete disaster.

Booking.com told us the landlord had canceled our Christmas and New Year apartment reservation, which I'd made about six months earlier, just two days before the stay. Their explanation was a red alert for heavy rain and possible flooding in the region. But Conil is hundreds of kilometers from Valencia, where the severe storms had just happened, so I find that excuse outrageous. The apartment is still available to book, now for over €100 more. Completely untrustworthy, and I can't recommend it.
